Before the Kyle P&Z and City Council make a final decision on allowing a 344 space (221- 18 wheelers, 123 cars) truck terminal to be set within a densely populated community adjacent to Yarrington Bridge on Post and Yarrington Road, I ask the elected officials of Hays County, Kyle and San Marcos to consider:
1. Heavy air pollution which can lead to asthma and lung issues.
2. Twenty-four hour noise pollution with non-stop exhausts running, air brakes and engines revving
3. Traffic congestion - Yarrington Bridge is a dangerously tight spot for the cars and trucks it currently carries. Expansion is set for 2015 but could be delayed. How will the citizens living in these areas access IH35 without time loss and potential jeopardy?
4. Excessive lighting will turn darkness to artificial daylight. Signage will be up to 80 feet in the sky.
5. Water issues - While San Marcos has agreed to provide wastewater to this facility on an unspecified interim basis, Blanco River awaits the waste.
6. Transient subculture will be drawn to this area because the size of this truck terminal will be the second largest in the state of Texas. Crime will increase correspondingly.
a. Prostitution
b. Drugs – both use and distribution
c. Human trafficking
d. Influx of vagrants
e. Trash spread throughout the community
Our county and interdependent cities need to protect this growing community which includes a large church, a well-recognized elementary school, Champions Crossing Apartments which is less than 300 feet away from the designated truck terminal, and Blanco Vista Estates single-family subdivision.
To harm the status of what has been created for the joint good of our cities is an enormous step back from the future envisioned by so many well-intended citizens.
Kyle Planning and Zoning meets on September 24th and City Council meets on October 1st.
