In three hard scrabble games, with the lead teetering each game, the San Marcos Lady Rattlers took down the Lehman Lady Lobos three straight, 25-19, 30-28, 25-20, Tuesday night in the Lobo Den.
It was the teams’ first meeting of the season.
The Lobos got off to a fast start in game one with aces by Heidi Munoz and Kali Palomarez. After taking an early 6-1 Lobo lead, Rattlers’ Mikali Myers ended the run and the Rattlers followed with five more points of their own. After trading points, Palomarez got the lead back for Lehman 17-16 with another ace, but after that it was all San Marcos. A few aces of their own helped give the Rattlers a game one win 25-19.
The fight of the night came in game two. Both teams were playing hard at the net and diving on the floor. Lehman’s Marissa Gonzales served for five straight points and gave the Lobos an early four point lead. The Lobos had game point at 24-22 until the Rattlers came back with three points of their own. After several long and tiring points, the two teams were tied at 28. With the Rattlers serving for the win, Bailey Hill hit a cross-court spike into the back corner, sealing game two for San Marcos 30-28.
The Rattlers didn’t let up in game three, and jumped out to a 9-2 lead. The Lehman girls never gave up. Lobos’ Aleeya Eskridge had two crucial kills to keep the Lobos close. A huge block by Haley Rohde and a cross-court spike from Munoz got the crowd excited again but it was short lived. After a serve from the Lobos landed out, the match was over 25-20 in game three.
The Lobos played a hard-fought game, but in the end San Marcos was just too powerful. Next up the Lobos will travel to San Marcos on Thursday for the “Ragin’ Rattler Tournament,” where they will also be playing Friday and Saturday.
