Buda, Kyle see double-digit jumps in sales taxes

by ANDY SEVILLA

Kyle and Buda took in double-digit increases in April sales tax allocations compared to the previous year, Texas Comptroller figures show.

Kyle received $270,777 in April sales tax collections, an increase of 14.17 percent from the same month last year, while Buda had a larger jump from the previous year, taking in $311,777 this month, a 17.76 percent increase.

April sales tax allocations represent reported February sales.

As a whole, Texas’ April sales tax revenues increased from the previous year, taking a 6.8 percent jump, according to a Texas Comptroller news release.

“Sales tax revenue growth was seen in both the business and consumer sectors of the economy,” said Texas Comptroller Susan Combs in the release. “Collections grew in sectors such as manufacturing and retail trade. Sales tax revenue has now increased for 36 consecutive months (in Texas).”

Kyle has seen a 15.6 percent increase in sales tax revenue in the first four months of 2013, compared to the same reporting period last year, reportedly taking in $1,272,633 to date.

Buda, too, has seen a jump in sales tax revenue from January to April of this year, compared to its 2012 numbers. Buda has reportedly accepted $1,377,698 a 14.93 percent increase from the same reporting period last year.

Hays County, on the other hand, only saw a single-digit increase in its April sales tax collections compared to the previous year.

Hays County collected $912,424 in sales tax revenue for April, a 7.49 percent increase from 2012. But in keeping with Kyle and Buda’s trend, the county has experienced a double-digit jump in 2013 payments to date, compared to its 2012 collections.

From January to April, Hays County has collected $4,328,535 in 2013, an 11.56 percent jump from the $3,879,800 it collected in the same reporting period in 2012.
