A man suspected of several San Marcos aggravated robberies that took place across the city and on the Texas State University campus was arrested last week on an aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon charge.
Police arrested Cedrick Lamont Samuel, 41, in the parking lot of a convenience store on Uhland Road on Sept. 19 in connection to a July 11 armed robbery, according to a San Marcos news release and Hays County jail records.
Samuel is suspected of committing at least one robbery while on parole for a 2009 aggravated robbery case, according to the release.
San Marcos police arrested Samuel in July 2009 on an aggravated robbery charge for which he was sentenced to four years in prison, according to Hays County jail records.
Samuel was released from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) in Oct. 2012 for his 2009 case and has lived at various addresses in San Marcos since his release from prison, the release stated. Samuel was still on parole during the commission of at least one robbery in which he is a suspect, according to the release. His parole ended July 14.
Additional warrants are being prepared for charges related to at least three other aggravated robberies in San Marcos.
Authorities have been investigating several armed robberies of convenience stores since July 4, including:
• July 4 armed robbery at the 7-11 at 1004 N. IH 35
• July 11 armed robbery at Conoco Fast Shop at 1101 Highway 123
• July 28 attempted robbery at Sac N Pac at 510 S. Guadalupe
• Sept. 8 armed robbery at Pac-N-Sac at 101 Linda Lane.
An August San Marcos Police news release said the July 4 and July 11 armed robberies may have been committed by the same individual which authorities described as a black male who claimed to have a weapon in the July 4 robbery and a black male who displayed a pistol in the July 11 incident.
In the July 28 case, police said a black male wearing a ski mask attempted to enter the store, but the door was locked and the man ran away on foot, according to the August release.
San Marcos Police and Texas State University Police are also investigating four other aggravated robberies that occurred on and near the university campus on July 30, Aug. 30 and Sept. 1. Samuel has not been ruled out as a suspect in these four robberies, according to the release.
On July 30, two men threatened to shoot a woman driver who was stopped at stop sign at the intersection of Mill and Eastwood Street if she did not give them her purse, according to the release. The suspects took the cash in the purse and then threw it back into the car before fleeing on foot.
On Aug. 30, a man in the Sanctuary Lofts parking lot was the victim of an armed robbery and shortly thereafter a man fitting the same description as the suspect in the earlier incident robbed a student outside of Towers Hall on the Texas State campus.
On Sept. 1, another student was a victim in an armed robbery at Bobcat Village Apartments.
Those investigations are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at the San Marcos Police Department at (512) 753-2300.
Samuel is being held at the Hays County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
