After reading about “The Jacob Project” in the Hays Free Press, members of the Fuentes Elementary Student Council decided to create a service project of their own. Their idea was Easter baskets for children at the Hays Caldwell Women’s Center in San Marcos. The inspiration for the group’s project came from fellow Fuentes student Samantha Hamill, 9, who along with her brother Waylon, started “The Jacob Project” in memory of their baby brother who was lost at birth. The student council collected stuffed animals and Easter baskets ? enough for 20 children ? under the direction of grandparent volunteer Sellie Moore and student council sponsor Michelle Velasquez. In this photo, student council members (l-r)?Valerie De La Rosa, fifth-grade treasurer, Grace Hammond, fifth-grade secretary and Maddie Hammond, fourth-grade class representative, show off their hard work.
