Buda’s Future at Stake

I began serving my city over a dozen years ago because I wanted to preserve our community’s vision for the future found in the Buda 2002-2012 Comprehensive Plan.  As both an appointed and elected official, I was blessed to play a part in ensuring that Buda retained its small town charm during a decade of exponential growth.  As I leave elected office to spend more time with my family, my gravest concern is that those who follow me will continue to successfully manage our inevitable growth.

We have recently updated and expanded that community vision through a series of plans based on the active involvement of our citizens: Buda 2030 Comprehensive Plan; Transportation Master Plan; Parks and Trails Master Plan; Economic Development Strategic Plan; and, a Downtown Master Plan currently under development.

For that reason, I was very pleased to see that both candidates attending the recent Chamber forum were not only familiar with the details of those plans but were committed to their implementation.  From their limited public statements, I seriously doubt that their opponents are familiar with those plans and suspect they probably oppose their implementation.  Their absence at Buda’s established candidate forum (for over a decade) demonstrates their contempt for those they wish to serve.  Even worse, their public statements demonstrate a contempt for the community vision arrived at in multiple plans involving the active participation of those they claim to represent.

Therefore, Angela Kennedy has my unqualified support to become my replacement in Place One, as does Wiley Hopkins for a full term in Place Two.

Ron Fletcher, Buda Councilmember Place 1
