A former mayor is looking to take over the Kyle City Council dais as he throws his hat in the ring.
Former Kyle Mayor James Adkins announced this week that he intends to file the paperwork in January to place his name on the ballot for mayor.
Adkins came to Kyle at the request of former Governor Ann Richards when the Kyle prison was first opened. Adkins moved to Kyle in 1993.
He was elected mayor in 1997 and served until 2005.
Adkins said this week that he believes a lot of good work was done under his leadership. When he became mayor, he said there was no charter, no police department, no paid fire department.
He said that during his term, all of those changes were made. As the city grew from 2,224 when he first started, so grew the responsibility of the city to its citizens, Adkins said.
The former mayor said he will be filing all paperwork with the city as soon as it is allowed.
