Happy Birthday, Cecil Clark! Buda’s very own Cecil Clark will be 101 years old on Thursday, October 24.
Cecil Clark, right, and his wife Wayne operated Clark’s Grocery Store and Market before it closed in the ‘70s. (Hays Free Press file photo) |
Mr. Clark was born and raised in the old Goforth community. He married Wayne Foster and they continued living in Goforth, then Austin before moving to Buda with their son and daughter. In 1947, he and his brother-in-law, Leslie Foster, purchased a grocery store from W. T. Acklin in Buda. A year later, Clark bought out Foster and named the store Clark’s Grocery and Market. Folks came from Austin and the surrounding towns to buy meat from the Clark Store because it was always fresh and the very best. He and his wife operated the store on Main Street Buda until 1970.
Today Clark continues to live in his white house on Cedar Street next door to his daughter. He always can be found at the Onion Creek Senior Activity Center playing “42” where he is usually the winner. On the first day of deer season, he will be out with his son hunting. Clark always gets his buck!

The annual Buda Elementary PTA carnival will be 2 until 6 p.m. on Saturday at the upper campus. Many fun games, food trailers, face painting, bounce house, balloon animals and a photo booth…don’t miss it.
Dress up the kids (and parents too) in Halloween costumes and come downtown Buda Saturday from 5 until 7 p.m. for the annual Boo-da Treat time sponsored by all the local businesses. Always a fun time and Main Street will be closed for the safety of all our folks.
