For the first quarter and a half, the Lehman Lobos held their own against the Tivy Antlers during their Homecoming game at Antler Stadium in Kerrville. Then the Antlers started lining up eight players in the box, holding the usually efficient Lehman rush attack to just 100 yards the entire game.
Lehman’s first drive easily ran through Tivy’s defense for the first five plays, led by Jeremy Schilhab, who picked up a first down with a 12-yard run. The Antlers shut down the drive, forcing the Lobos to attempt a field goal, which was missed by Chris Piedra.
On Tivy’s next drive, the Antlers moved down the field through the air. Two completions by Ray Swyers of 13 and 15 yards put Tivy in Lehman territory. A hard hit by a couple of Lobos on Adrian Medran caused him to fumble, giving the ball back to the Lobos.
Lehman would punt the ball a few plays later, causing Tivy to retake possession just before the first quarter ended at a 0-0 tie.

Tivy wide receiver Tyler Ahrens caught three passes on Tivy’s next drive of 11, 10 and 30 yards to put the Antlers at the 23-yard line. After a stopped run and incompletion by Swyers, Ahrens caught another pass, this time for a 25-yard touchdown. The Antlers took the lead, 7-0, with 5:41 left in the half. All five of Ahrens’ passes came in the third quarter but he finished with 118 yards and a touchdown.
A penalty after a good runback on the kickoff for the Lobos put them in Antler territory on the ensuing drive. A couple of plays later, they tied the game at seven off an 8-yard touchdown run by Malcolm Turner – his first of the season.
After the score, the Lobos attempted a surprise onside kick that didn’t fool the Antlers. Two plays after Tivy recovered the ball near midfield, Tres White broke free for a 15-yard touchdown run.
Pinned back at their two-yard line, the Lobos fumbled a handoff and it was recovered by the Antlers in the end zone for a safety, making the score 16-7 at halftime.
The Antlers took complete control in the second half, scoring twice in the third quarter with a 9-yard touchdown run by Swyers and then off a 15-yard touchdown pass from Swyers to Carson McCoy.
Tivy found the end zone one more time in the fourth quarter with a 9-yard touchdown run by Parker Brown.
Schilhab led the Lobos in rushing with 65 yards on 18 rushes. He completed 1-10 passes for 16 yards and two interceptions. The lone reception was made by Kelton Powell in the fourth quarter.
Turner gained 20 yards on six rushes to go along with his touchdown. He initially gained 35 yard on five carries but he recovered a fumbled snap for a loss of 15 yards.
The Lobos (2-6) look to bounce back at their last home game of the season this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Bob Shelton Stadium when they host the Lockhart Lions (3-6).
