On March 28, the Hays Rebel softball team flashed prodigious offensive firepower, as the Rebels run-ruled Kerrville Tivy 12-2 in five innings.
Early on, Tivy jumped out to a two-run lead in the top of the first with three hits, including a double and a squeeze bunt. However, the Rebels answered right back in a big way, as Hannah Ramsey drove a two-run home run in the inning, while Karina Rocha belted a two-run RBI double to give the Rebels a 4-2 lead.
Hays’ offense continued their torrid pace in the bottom of the second, as five more runs crossed the plate. Haleigh Madden contributed with a two-run RBI double, while Brayden Pinckard hit an RBI triple in the inning. The Rebels tacked on one more run in the third, then scored two more in the fifth, as Clarissa Gonzalez and Ramsey hit RBI doubles to complete the run rule.
In the pitching circle, Gonzalez went the distance, keeping Tivy scoreless in the final four innings of the contest. In her outing, she gave up only two runs on five hits, striking out three Tivy batters in the process. Gonzalez improves her record to 8-0.
The most staggering aspect of the Rebels win were the statistics the team compiled. Madden went 2-for-2 at the plate with four RBIs, Pinckard was 2-for-3, Rocha finished 2-for-3 with two RBI’s, Maddy Shannon was 2-for-4, while Ramsey hit her third home run of the year, driving in 3 RBIs in the contest and scoring two runs.
With the win, Hays improves to 8-1 in district play, while Tivy falls to 1-8. The Rebels will next be in action on Thursday at Lockhart.
