Intangibles:

All eyes in the district will be focused on Shelton this Friday, as Hays and Heights battle for the district championship. Both teams have already clinched playoff spots, both know more or less where they’ll be going. But none of that will matter when the ball kicks off. Hays brings to the table their run attack, which features multiple dimensions from RB Kasper, RB Gandy, WR Park, QB Jordan and now FB Castro. Last week saw the Rebel pass game thrive, as Jordan threw for 200 yards and four touchdowns.  The offense could see prolific numbers, as they go up against a Heights porous defense. But Height’s best defense is their offense. They can score points – and lots of it. The Rebel defensive front seven will receive their biggest challenge of the year in stopping RB Proctor, who’s rushed for 922 yards and 18 touchdowns. But the defense will also have to key on one of the area’s top QB’s in Banks. He has thrown for 1,986 yards and 16 touchdowns. To be successful, Hays’ pass defense must limit Height’s big play capability.  This could very well be a track meet, with both teams scoring upwards of 30 points. But with so much on the line, expect all to put forth their best effort. For Hays, history could be made once again, as they vie for a third straight district title.

Intangibles:

It’s the season finale for the Lehman Lobos, which look to notch a third district win against a playoff bound Clemens team. Perhaps more importantly, Lehman looks to end the season on a high note. Last week, the Lobo offense erupted for 377 yards, 249 through the air. QB Schilhab, along with WRs Powell and Herrera, helped revamp the pass offense. That will help bolster the rushing game, led by Schilhab and Brown. They will have to work around a Buffalo defense, led by the Hill brothers, that has allowed only 124 points. Conversely, the Lobo defense will have to contend with an extremely balanced Clemens offense, led by QB Elkins, who’s thrown for more than 1,500 yards. Clemens rush game has also performed well, gaining 1,400 yards. Four players have rushed for over 200 yards apiece, led by RB Collins. Clemens’ defense will provide a challenge, but don’t be surprised if this turns into a high-scoring affair. The last team with the ball could very well win the game.
