Frances Jane Sholars Dossman, 81, slipped peacefully away on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, in Buda with her daughters by her side. She was born on June 22, 1931, to Houston and Ollie Cobb in Dubach, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Forest, Dan, and Ricky Cobb.
She graduated from Dubach High School and received an Associate of Arts degree from Tarleton State University. She had a wonderful career with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. She worked her way up the career ladder from a clerk, to eligibility worker, to supervisor. During her years as an eligibility supervisor she managed units of workers and clerical staff. She also supervised training units, helping to mold, challenge, and teach new eligibility staff. This was the job she loved most and found most rewarding.
After retiring in 1992, she spent time traveling across the states but later in life, she found her favorite things to do were spending time close to home with family and friends. She loved sewing and embroidery, gardening, and her all time favorite was shopping and going out for breakfast every Saturday. She raised miniature donkeys in Crawford before moving to Austin where she helped to raise a cat named Mr. Darcy and two dogs – Jane and Lizzy.
She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Sheila Griffith and husband Kevin of Buda; Kathy Sholars Cox and husband James of Austin; Joan Sholars and husband Javier Gomez of Corona, California; grandchildren, Michael Mahoney and wife Dawn Brian; James Buckanis and wife Erin; David Cox and wife Jackie; Kristal Gomez, and Tanya Gomez; great grandchildren Brooke and Paige Mahoney, Charles Cox, Harper Thomas, Skyler, Wynter, and Bayleigh Buckanis; sister Margaret Cain of Livingston, TX; brothers Fred Cobb of Neosho, Missouri and Earl Cobb of Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
