Samuel Scott Courtney (2012)

Samuel Scott Courtney, 11, of Kyle, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012.  The Barton Middle School sixth-grader will always be remembered for his exuberant spirit, love of art and music, deep-beyond-his-years voice and fun-loving, outgoing personality.

He is survived by parents Brian and Debra Courtney and younger brother Ryan.  He is remembered with love by grandparents Ron and Donna Bell of Kyle, Tom and Nita Glover of Sycamore, IL, and Jay and Robin Broughton of Katy, as well as great-grandmothers, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.  We are certain Sam and his uncle Steve Burt are already causing trouble together.

Since Samuel’s passing, we have learned of his profound impact on friends and teammates, coaches and teachers.  We pray that his spirit will continue to shine through all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services for family and friends were held on Tuesday, November 20.  Burial followed at Kyle Cemetery.  Pall bearers were Brandon Courtney, Jake Glover, Bo Gossett, Anthony Leos, Kolby Rankin and Andrew Raven.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for the larger community.  We have been overwhelmed by the show of love and support for Sam and our family, and we look forward to the opportunity to thank everyone.

Sam’s interests were many and varied, but he was passionate about them all.  In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to your charity of choice or to the Brian Courtney Memorial Donation Fund in care of LCRA Credit Union.

We would also like to thank the first responders and emergency room staff at Cleveland Regional Medical Center for their care and concern during the earliest of our trying hours.
