Chamber looking for Business Expo participants

by TERRY CAPPS
Buda Chamber of Commerce

Last Wednesday marked another successful Buda Chamber luncheon meeting and our thanks go to Athena Tyner and Veronica Martinez for their superb organizing talents. Again, Beth Watson outdid herself with those wonderfully tasty, homemade rolls! Better yet, three attendees joined our ever-increasing ranks. Welcomes go to UNI Texas, U Move It-We Clean It and Hays Highsteppers Parents Club. New member plaques were given to Buda Lodge #800, Buda Downtown Farmers Market, Ruth Wenzel (CPA), Compassionate Care Hospice, Kiddie Express Trains, Hole in the Sky Eco Solutions and Tractor Supply. We thank all of you for joining our business organization! Elm Grove Asst. Principal Adrian Voskamp spoke about leadership at the elementary school level and programs designed to cultivate future leaders in our community.

Our new luncheon meeting committee, spearheaded by Veronica Martinez, is surveying our membership, strategizing and raising the bar to bring fresh ideas for future luncheon meetings. There’s no July event; our Back-To-School luncheon will be August 8.

Some excerpts from local newspapers:

• Enrollment is up at local colleges…spurring an increased need for housing and upgrades to facilities. The result is many... opportunities for general contractors, subs, architectural and engineering firms, and furniture, fixture and equipment providers.

• What should an entrepreneur consider when looking to start a business…? Find out what’s missing, find the hole. There always is one. It should be something that others have tried and given up on – preferably, as close to the high end provider as possible.

• What’s the best advice you can offer an aspiring entrepreneur? Surround yourself with amazing people who are true partners in helping to achieve your vision. Entrepreneurship is a team sport.

• Playing your hand: Business is a game of poker, not chess…the old game of chess – more than 1,600 years old – has long been used as a metaphor for war, strategy and business. But I believe that a better analogy for business is the game of poker.

Yes…you may visit our office during business hours and read to your heart’s content.
