Manhunt leads to arrest in northern Hays County

Bobby Jones, Jr.

STAFF REPORT

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office reported Sunday evening that a man allegedly involved in an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is being held in the county jail facility.

According to arrest records, the suspect, Bobby Jones, Jr., was apprehended Sunday afternoon following a multi-agency manhunt on foot near Carpenter Lane and Bliss Spillar in north east Hays County.

Neighbors in the area say they saw five Hays County Sheriff’s Office and several Travis County Sheriff’s Office vehicles near the low-water crossing leading into the Chaparral Park subdivision around 3 p.m. A short time later, neighbors said there was a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter circling around the area at a low altitude, supposedly searching for Jones who was described by a resident as a “while male, no shirt, all scratched up.”

One resident near the Chaparral neighborhood said a sheriff’s deputy stopped and talked with her neighbor who was in the front yard. She said the deputy told her neighbor to go in the house and stay inside because there was a man who was on drugs and had a gun nearby.

The manhunt for Jones involved the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, Travis County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
