Odds & Ends
by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN
Spring has arrived with a good rain, two to three inches reported in the Uhland community. It was accompanied by lots of lightening and strong winds. I know that the farmers and ranchers are happy. Most of the fields have been planted with corn and milo maize and the oats and wheat are “heading out” (making seeds). My dad always said a lot of lightening was good, it put nitrogen into the ground. Hope he was right. I notice a hummingbird at the feeder so it must be spring.
That means Easter is not far away. Palm Sunday service will be at 10:30 a.m. April 1, Good Friday service at 7 p.m. April 6 with Holy Communion at St. John Lutheran Church in Uhland. Easter Sunday, April 8, service at 7 a.m. with an Easter egg hunt to follow. Members might check with Rev. Hotopp to see if they can help with the egg hunt.

The stock shows for this area have come to an end. Raney Moore (misspelled his name last week-sorry about that) and Cooper Moore showed in the Austin Stock Show last week. Even though they did not place in the top to make the sale, they did a great job showing their hogs. They showed in several shows and placed in the top several times. Congratulations on a job well done.
By the way, congratulations to Zane Schnautz, son of Doug and Sara, who did well in the Caldwell County Show in Lockhart with his rabbit exhibition.

Congratulations (a few days late) to Gladys Sorrells on her birthday. Her neighbor took her out to lunch at a restaurant in Winchester. She said the meal was great as well as the drive and the company. That was Murphy’s Restaurant in Winchester, Texas, you all.

Daniel and Sharon Heideman accompanied by Myrtle Heideman joined Benny and Carol Schumann for a picnic lunch at Horizon Bay Assisted Living Center in San Marcos as guests of Clarence Heideman. Delicious hamburgers and all the trimmings were enjoyed. Residents, staff and some family guests also played various outdoor games.
