Spring got off to a cool start with glorious raindrops and lower temperatures. Enjoy all the green because we all know that the hot times are coming!

The first Buda Farmers Market of the season also got off to a great start last Saturday morning. Buda was bustling with people along Main Street. The music provided at the market had folks toe taping and enjoying the outdoors. Remember the farmers market will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon.

The Mighty Mel 5K Fun Run/Walk and a community-wide garage sale will be held Saturday, March 31 at Barton Middle. Both events will benefit Relay for Life.

Santa Cruz Catholic School and Seton Medical Center Hays are teaming up to hold the 1st Cardinal Cross Country run and Health Fair. The event is Saturday, April 14 in Buda. The cross-country run will include 5K, 10K and family one mile distances and will take place in Buda’s Historic Stage Coach Park. The Health Fair will be held in Deane Hall at Santa Cruz Catholic Church and will feature care providers from around the area, all under one roof. You’ll see a new face at the Buda Chamber of Commerce office with the addition of Athena Tyner. Tyner has replaced Patsy Deringer who left due to a family emergency. Stop by soon and meet Athena at the chamber office on Railroad Street.

A big thank you goes out to Pedernales Electric’s Light the Way program that recognized and honored many local organizations on Tuesday at the Kyle District Office. Representatives from Buda, Kyle, Dripping Springs, Wimberley and San Marcos were given checks in the amount of $1,000 for their organization. Groups from Buda were: Buda Chamber of Commerce, Buda Fire Department, Buda Public Library and Onion Creek Senior Citizens.

The annual Buda Egg Hunt will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 7 at the Buda Sportsplex. Not only will there be thousands of eggs to hunt but also inflatable games, a rock wall, petting zoo, trackless train and face painting. The City of Buda, YMCA and Fellowship Church Southwest organized the free event. Donations of canned food is welcomed but not required for the Bastrop County Food Bank.
