Clifford Paul Van Doren (1917 - 2012)

Clifford Paul Van Doren, age 95, of Kyle, TX peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2012. He was born on July 5, 1917 in Loami, IL to Henry and Amanda Van Doren. He married Mabel Lovelace on October 31, 1975 in Peoria, IL.


He was a veteran of WWII and retired from the US Army Reserves with a rank of Command Sergeant Major. In addition, he retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service where he served as a surveyor.


After retirement he spent the next 20 years traveling through every state of the domestic United States with his wife and best friend, Mabel. Later they traveled to England, France, and Belgium.


Clifford was a member of the Kyle United Methodist Church where he specifically enjoyed meeting new people and participating in the church’s activities. He was also a member of the Kyle Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars where he enjoyed sharing the special bond that veterans have.


Clifford was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel, his parents, sister Louise Wyckoff, brother Cornelius Austin Van Doren and two sons Larry and Perry Van Doren.


Clifford is survived by son, John Lovelace and wife Cindy, daughter Martha Donaldson, step-childrenĀ  Brenda Dorsey, James Lovelace and wife Teresa, daughters-in-law Jackie Van Doren and Marla Walker, 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, nephews Carlton Van Doren, Don and Alan Wyckoff, and step-nephews Jim and Denny Gates.


Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Kyle United Methodist Church. The Reverend Barbara Aziz will officiate.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions are made to the Kyle VFW Building Fund, Kyle/Buda VFW Post 12058, P.O. Box 2725, Kyle, TX. 78640.


C.P. was a source of wisdom, encouragement and inspiration to those whose lives he touched. He will be missed by all.
