Edgar Martin Daugherty, was born June 19, 1935 to Roy Newton Daugherty and Malvina Annie New in Austin. After a courageous battle with cancer, the Lord called him home on December 13, 2012 at the Legend Oaks Care & Rehabilitation Facility in Kyle.
Edgar was a graduate of William B. Travis High School, Austin, Texas, and shortly after joined the Army. Edgar served in the Army from 1958 to 1962 earning the rank of Pfc (E-3). During his Army service he was in the Berlin Crisis and the Cuban Missile Crisis . He was honorably discharged as a disabled veteran.
Edgar married Lois Elaine Franke on November 24, 1960. He became the loving, kindest father to James Martin Daugherty and Cheryl Ann Shelley. Edgar’s career continued when he joined the Lower Colorado River Authority. He was a heavy equipment operator. He retired after 33 years of service.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years Lois; children James Martin Daugherty (Jill) and Cheryl Ann Shelley (Parrish); six grandchildren, Melissa Elaine Villarreal (Oscar), James Roy Daugherty (Jennifer), Matthew Wayne Matney, Lance Parrish Shelley, Brittany Ann Shelley and Trent Martin Shelley and five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Alexus, Hunter, Makayla and Austin; siblings, Bodie Winkley(Joe), Frances Kyle, Travis Daugherty(Celise) and sister-in-law, Wanda Daugherty. Edgar is also survived by a multitude of loving friends whose lives were touched throughout his fulfilling life.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Malvina Daugherty, and a brother, Roy Newton Daugherty, Jr.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 17, 2012 at Harrell Funeral Home, Kyle and officiated by Reverend David Goeke. Burial followed at the Masonic Cemetery in Austin.
Edgar’s family would like to express their appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the Odyssey Hospice staff and the Legend Oaks Care & Rehabilitation Facility.
