Hiring Red, White & You! – job fairs for veterans

Returning home from military service, especially after being in a combat zone, is difficult enough for U.S. veterans. Imagine not having a job to come back to and finding it difficult to get one.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the national unemployment rate for all veterans is 6.7 percent. In contrast, for those veterans who served in the military, post-9/11, the unemployment rate is at 9.7 percent.

The “Hiring Red, White & You!” statewide jobs fair will highlight employment opportunities for the estimated 922,0003 veterans in the Texas workforce.

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), in partnership with 28 local workforce development boards and the Texas Veterans Commission, will host veterans job fairs across the state on Nov. 15. The events are part of TWC’s “Hiring Red, White & You!” campaign to connect our returning veterans in Texas with employers who are hiring.

TWC certifies employer claims for the federal Work Opportunity Tax Credit, which allows employers to receive up to $9,600 on federal business income or payroll tax benefits when they hire from certain qualified groups of veterans.
