A Georgia firm has won the contract to supply computers to the new Kyle Public Library.
The City Council voted earlier this month to approve a purchase order for Southern Computer Warehouse of Marietta for 60 desktop computers, 25 laptops, plus related software and equipment.
Funds from the Kyle Friends of the Library will pay for the computers. Mayor Lucy Johnson asked Mark Shellard, information technology director, why he didn’t select a local firm for the $58,625 contract.
Shellard said based on the specifications, Southern Computer Warehouse offered the best value to the city, including warranties and technical support.
Blue Computer Solutions, a Kyle company, also bid on the work. The price it quoted was not within 3 percent overall of the winning bid. The firm had lower prices on laptops, but the difference in price on desktop computers was several hundred dollars, Shellard said.
