STAFF REPORT

A furniture outlet store in Kyle has locked its doors, shut down its website and disconnected its phone – all after reportedly taking customers’ money but not delivering on their purchased products.

In the past two weeks nearly 20 customers have contacted the Better Business Bureau to complain about not receiving orders or other problems with the Motif Furniture Outlet, on Interstate 35 south of Kyle Parkway, and its sister store in San Antonio.

Customers have also complained about not receiving refunds for furniture that was purchased but not delivered.

The BBB said it is still trying to contact the San Antonio-based company, Motif Modern Living. If the store owners do not come forward, BBB spokeswoman Erin Rodriguez recommended clients contact their credit card company to dispute the transaction.

“Hopefully (Motif) will decide to respond to us, and there will be some recourse for consumers,” Rodriguez said. “If customers have a contract with Motif, they can also attempt to reach out to the manufacturer to see if the manufacturer can help resolve the issue.”

Though the Kyle outlet store’s lights were dimmed earlier this week, several items of furniture could still be seen inside the showroom. The location had been open since 2005 and boasted closeouts, special promotions and floor models on “affordable organic contemporary furniture and unique home accents” in the nearly 20,000-square-foot building next to Cowboy Honda Austin.
