STAFF REPORT
Author Debbie Roppolo of San Marcos will visit Camino Real Elementary School this Friday to talk about her new book, “Amelia Frump and Her Peanut Butter Loving, Overactive Imagination.”
The main character – a young girl with a wild imagination who is a little afraid of the dark and loves peanut butter – has a lot in common with Roppolo.
As a kid with an overactive imagination, Roppolo said she used to imagine all kinds of wild things. She was also a horror movie fan, which then made her a bit scared of things that go bump in the night.
“I just knew something awful was under my bed and going to drag me under there with it,” Roppolo said.
Plus, she is a peanut butter lover.
With a laugh, Roppolo says “Amelia is me.”
This is Roppolo’s first solo book. Her earlier writing was included in “Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul.”
Roppolo, a former sheriff’s deputy, is now working on a follow-up book to “Amelia Frump” – it’s a book featuring peanut butter recipes. She said the process takes longer than she thought.
“You have to try each recipe and that takes time,” Roppolo said.
