Viola Virginia Roach, 87, joined Our Lord on Thursday, May 3, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Anna Schmidt; brothers Clifford, Curtis, and Joe Schmidt; husband Burris Roach; and daughter Kimberly Ann.
Viola was born in Mendoza, Texas, in 1925, and lived in the Kyle/Buda area her entire life. Her passion in life was her family, and she loved everyone who walked through her door as family. She also loved to garden, and we all remember the fresh tomatoes and dill pickles that would eventually land on her kitchen table. She led a very active life, and everything she did, she did well and with gusto. She was very proud of her 50-year career painting fishing floats for the Comal Tackle Co., managed by her sons.
Viola is survived by her sister Oleta Roach; sons Robert and wife Pat, Roy and wife Bessie, Wayne and wife Debbie; son Clyde, and daughter Doris; grandchildren David Roach, Mark Roach and wife Aleisa, Keith Roach and fiancé Sheila, Sarah Roach, and Lisa Zambrano and husband Alfred; great-grandchildren Cassandra, Mary Elizabeth and Mark Roach Jr., and Anne Zambrano; special nieces Dixie Cole and husband Richard, and Yvonne Schmidt; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 7 at Harrell Funeral Home Chapel in Kyle with Reverend Buddy Johnson of First Baptist Church of Buda officiating. Interment followed at Live Oak Cemetery in Manchaca. The family wishes to thank Dr. Allen Sonstein for his many years of excellent care and for going above and beyond the call of duty. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in memoriam to the First Baptist Church of Buda or to the American Cancer Society.
