Dems name delegates to national convention

SUBMITTED REPORT

Three Hays County residents were chosen to be delegates to the Democratic National Convention which will be held in Charlotte, NC, during the week of September 3.

Rose Brooks of San Marcos, and Katie Adams and Marvadene Eves, both of Dripping Springs, were selected at the Texas State Democratic Convention in Houston to represent Hays County Democrats at the national convention.  They will have an active role in the process of selecting the Democratic nominees for president and vice president in the 2012 national election, as well as defining the party’s platform. President Barack Obama, with his April primary victories in the Maryland and the District of Columbia, has more than the required 2,778 delegates to secure the nomination.

Brooks, a lifelong San Marcos resident, is active in community, civic and church activities and has been a Democratic leader for many years. Adams studies mechanical engineering at the University of Texas in Austin. Eves has had a career in public relations and as a publishing executive. Eves also served as a member of the temporary resolutions committee for the state convention.

A fourth Hays County resident, Rachel Najera of Buda, treasurer of the Hays County Tejano Democrats, was elected to serve on the Nominations Committee at the state convention.  The Hays County delegation to the Texas Democratic Convention was composed of 60 delegates from Buda, Driftwood, Dripping Springs, Kyle, San Marcos and Wimberley.

“I’m proud to see the active roles of so many Hays County Democrats at the state and national conventions,” said Hays County Democratic Chair Bill Liddle.  “The fact that they were selected by their peers says a great deal about their dedication and the respect with which they are held.  They represent the Democratic Party’s commitment to fairness, equality, and opportunity, which are the bedrock values of our nation and of Texas.”
