Ken Knight (2012)

Ken Knight, 60,of Buda, the quintessential definition of a man’s man, died on Nov. 6, 2012, encircled by his eternally devoted family, friends and workers. In 1972, as part of the final U.S. Army draft, Ken moved to Texas from Gary, Indiana, which he always said “was a good place to be from...far from.” Ken Knight, in his patently full-tilt fashion, embraced 1970s Austin, in all its cosmic cowboy glory. He excelled in ice hockey, golf and poker, the last two of which introduced him to his dedicated wife, Amy. The two were wed on August 8, 2008. Ken was unknowingly and so giftedly a teacher and benefactor to many. He started his own construction company, Austin Remodel and Repair, in 1988 and exuded extreme pride in being an “Independent Contractor” and a recycling nazi.

He leaves behind a pack of devotees, including his wife Amy Sue Knight, mother Ann Knight, daughter and son-in-law Kim and Clint Gilleland and his cherished grandchildren, Brooke and Wyatt, son Christopher Joseph Knight, brothers Ed and Dean Knight and sisters Brenda Natale and Donna Connolly, numerous family and close friends and lastly his loyal tuxedo cats, Bobby Sue and Chaz Bono.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 10 at United Methodist Church in Oak Hill, followed by a party to honor his vibrant life at the Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The International Mesothelioma Program at www.impmeso.org, or Brigham & Women’s Hospital Thoracic Unit at 46 Francis St. Boston, MA 02115. The universe is saddened at losing Ken Knight, but heaven must be elated.
