The residents of the Sierra West subdivision (located just north of the intersection of FM 150 and FM 3237) recently earned “Firewise Communities, USA” recognition from the National Fire Protection Association for their efforts to reduce the vulnerability of their homes and landscapes to wildfire. In recognition of this achievement, the Sierra West Community Board was presented with two “Firewise Communities, USA” street signs to be displayed at the entrances to the neighborhood. The members were trained to conduct home assessments, identify emergency evacuation routes for both entrances, hold community informational meetings to share and distribute information and implement recommendations and mitigating wildfire risk by removing flammable vegetation from around homes and common areas.
