Hays County opens resource center for veterans

SUBMITTED REPORT

Hays County officially opened its new Veterans Resource Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony February 28. During its regular Tuesday meeting, the Hays County Commissioners Court adjourned to the second floor of the Courthouse which now houses the Veteran Services Office and joined other dignitaries at the event.

“One of our goals is to make job-seeking easier for area veterans who may not have resources at home,” said Hays County Veteran Services Officer Jude Prather. “We acquired two older County computers that are usable for job searching, enabling us to set up this service without any additional cost to taxpayers. Now, in addition to helping veterans receive benefits to which they are entitled, we can offer them a place to search the Internet and view company job openings on the Web.”

The Hays County Veteran Services Office, located in the County Courthouse at 111 E. San Antonio Street, San Marcos, is available to help veterans and their dependents receive the various services they are entitled to for serving our country, such as help with filling out forms for assistance, replacing missing paperwork and medals and transportation to the VA Hospital in San Antonio. For more information about veteran services in Hays County, contact the Veteran Services Office at 512.392.8387, Veteran Services Officer Jude Prather at [email protected] or assistant VSO Agripina Lopez at [email protected].
