Federico “Freddy” G. Rivas Jr., of Kyle, formerly of San Marcos, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2012, at the age of 46. He was born October 11, 1965 in San Marcos, to Federico G. and Guadalupe Gallegos Rivas Sr.
Freddy had a passion for cooking. He worked for many years at the Rocking Horse Academy at Plum Creek as the kitchen manager. He brought his talent of cooking to the First Methodist Church in Kyle in 2001 where he helped to organize and cook many a meal for their soup kitchen. In 2003, on a shoestring budget, he and his wife Diana began a Thanksgiving meal program for those in need, that fed over 1,000 people in Hays County. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church in San Marcos.
He is survived by his companion, Diana Downing, of Kyle; mother of his children, Mary Lou Rivas; his children, Veronica Michele Rivas, Jonathan Andrew Rivas, Freddy Joseph Rivas III and Stephanie Marie Rivas; his parents, Federico “Fred” and Lupe Rivas Sr. and grandson, Ethan Ray Rivas.
He will be joined beyond this life with his paternal grandparents, Manuel and Julia Guerrero Rivas Sr. and maternal grandparents, Andres and Maria Gonzales Gallegos.

Funeral services were held, Friday, June 15, 2012, in the Pennington Memorial Chapel. Graveside Services were, Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Memory Lawn Memorial Park, Martindale, Texas.
