Check It Out
by MARC HUNTERÂ
It was a dark and stormy night...or perhaps it was a beautiful day at the beach, it’s all up to you, actually. Either way, the Friends of the Buda Library in association with the Buda Public Library and the Hays Free Press are sponsoring a Short Story Contest for all those aspiring writers out there.
If you are a Hays County library card holder aged 16 or older and you are not a professional writer, but you love to write, this is a perfect opportunity for you to show off your talent. Maybe, you have never written before, but you’ve had that story bouncing around in your head for awhile, now is the time to put your toe in the water...or pen in the inkwell, as the case may be.
Craft a story of 2,000 words or less and enter for your chance to win the $200 First Place, $100 Second Place, or $50 Third Place prizes. The winners will be announced in May right here in the Hays Free Press and the winning story will be published on the Hays Free Press website. The entry fee is only $20 and all proceeds benefit the Buda Public Library. You can visit the library or www.friendsofthebudalibrary.org for all the specific submission guidelines and details. Submission deadline is April 30, 2012 so get writing.
