Emma Hardin (1930-2012)

Emma Hardin 81, of Buda, our beloved mother, grandmother (Nanna), and friend was called by our lord on June 6, 2012 with her family by her side. Emma was born in Walburg, Texas to Oswald and Anita Neitsch on July 12, 1930. She was one of 17 children and attended Zion Lutheran Church School completing eight years of school in only six years. Emma so wanted to attend high school, but it was against her father’s will. Instead, she was asked to stay home, work on the farm and help raise her brothers and sisters, which she did. At the age of 20, she married John Wesley Hardin and they raised five children. As a resident of 52 years in Buda, she was loved by all who met her. She was such a caring and dedicated person in all walks of life. Emma was so proud of her accomplishments in her work outside of the home, from Woolworth, Night Hawk and HEB (meat department), and lastly her most joyful employment was being a head cosmetician at HEB for 28 years. She so loved her customers as they in turn loved her. Retiring at the age of 64, Emma stayed busy gardening her plants and helping her family in any way needed. We will all miss her sweet dear face and her love for all.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Hardin, and son-in-law, George Ray Holden. She is survived by her son, John Wesley Hardin Jr. (Julie): daughter, Darla Jean Hon (Charlie): daughter Karen Sue Holden: daughter, Sharon Lanette Lowden (Dale): daughter, Kimberli Ann Wiley and Billie: 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren: many relatives and extended families.

A memorial service was held at Harrell Funeral Home in Austin on Monday June 11, 2012. Graveside services followed at Live Oak Cemetery in Manchaca. In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable contribution in memory of Emma Hardin to The American Cancer Society , 2433 Ridge Point Drive, Suite B, Austin, Texas, 78754.
