Club 21 is coming back, sort of

by MYRTLE HEIDMAN

Yes, it’s true! Club 21 is being built. Well, not quiet all of it, according to Tommy Odell, who stated that as of now, the plans are for a “Bar and Grill” to be built and a dance hall to follow. Tommy, along with his father Claude (Cowboy) Odell and others, is busy preparing the ground. So there will soon be a place to meet, enjoy a hamburger and more, with a cool one. In the meantime, you can practice the cotton eyed Joe, two-step and maybe even a waltz or two. Guess there won’t be any basketball games played in the dance hall. Those were the good old days.

Speaking of good days, Saturday, Oct. 6, was a good day for the St. John Lutheran Church. Besides having a good time and enjoying the good food, the large crowd contributed to several projects the ladies have undertaken. They include the San Marcos Women’s Shelter, the Young Girls Home in New Braunfels and the Hays and Caldwell Food Bank and also for our Troops. Thanks again to all. The Women’s Guild held their monthly meeting at noon on Saturday, Oct. 13. Hosting the meeting were Bobby Jean Hagedorn and Sandra Jones. Jones presented a very interesting and informative program on the life and works of Martin Luther.

On Sunday after morning worship, Pastor David Geoke also gave a talk and displayed pictures, plaques, bibles (one dated 1732) and several other artifacts. A very informative and memorable collection of the life and history of Martin Luther.

The fourth-grade class of the Clear Fork Elementary School of Lockhart presented a very lively and well-presented musical program. “Evolution of Music” was a program of singing and dancing showing the change of music though the years. Among the students was Logan Crowell of Uhland. His parents, Don and Tracie Crowell, grandparents, Rick and Terry Kleen, and great-grandmother, Myrtle Heideman, attended the program last Tuesday, as did a large crowd of parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and friends. The children were fantastic, as were the teachers. Logan’s group did the dance “cotton eyed Joe” (wish I could do as well) and also joined in all the different songs the whole class sang.
