The new Remembrance Garden at Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) opened with a special ceremony on Oct. 15, which is recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Remembrance Day. The garden provides a private and serene place for anyone who experiences, or has experienced, the loss of a loved one, with a special focus on babies. More than 30 attendees were able to write prayers, memories or messages to lost loved ones. After placing their thoughts in a basket, they chimed a singing bowl in their loved one’s honor. A volunteer choir sang hymns to live harp music performed by Patricia Hager. CTMC Director of Women’s Services Margie Lieck spoke to the crowd about the garden’s purpose. At the conclusion of the event, dozens of butterflies were released into the air.
