The list of postseason superlative accolades for a Hays High senior basketball player continue to grow. Last week, Hays High senior Lily Guevara was named as a 2021 McDonald's All American Game nominee. Guevara, a four-year varsity letter winner with the Hays girls basketball team, was among a group of 700 high school male and female basketball athletes nominated for consideration to the final 48 player roster, which will be announced later this month. Those selected to the final roster will be recognized in a virtual ceremony in lieu of the contest, which was canceled for 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Alumni of the McDonald's All American Game include basketball icons Michael Jordan, Candace Parker, LeBron James, Maya Moore and many more. Guevara was one of three female basketball players from the Austin area nominated for the McDonald's All American game.
During her time at Hays, Guevara was a critical cog for the girls hoops program and tallied more than 1,000 points in her career. In addition, Guevara signed her letter of intent earlier this year to play basketball at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton. In 2020, Guevara was named as a first team selection to the 25-6A All District list.
