Seton to offer free heart screenings for Hays athletes
Seton Medical Center Hays is offering free heart health screenings for student athletes ages 14-18 from 8 a.m.-noon this Saturday. The screening includes an electrocardiogram (ECG) and a limited two-dimensional echocardiogram (ECHO, or picture of the heart) to detect HCM, the leading cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes. The event is underwritten by the Hays CISD’s Hays Heart Classic. Online pre-registration is available at www.championshipheartsfoundation.org.
Hays CISD now on Facebook
Hays CISD is now even more active in the world of social media. The district established a Twitter account in late 2009 and rolled out its Facebook page Monday. Spokesperson Tim Savoy said the page had 15 ‘likes’ in the morning and 174 once he notified parents by email. A quick check Tuesday morning had the number at 232. Savoy said parents can check Faceboook and Twitter for accomplishments of students and staff as well as other school-related information. Be sure to check the commenting rules before posting anything on the sites.
