Rebel art brings in high dollars at Austin, San Antonio rodeos

Hays High School artists Sydney Osborne and Caragh Givens enjoyed wide – and profitable – interest in their entries at the Youth Western Art Show, held in conjunction with the recent Austin Rodeo. Junior Osborne won Grand Champion honors in Digital Art for her self-portrait with Texas longhorns and her work earning $1,900 in scholarship money in the event’s auction. Competing in the Traditional category, junior Caragh Givens placed in the top 16 with her colored pencil drawing of a horse and received $1,710 in the auction.

Senior Anna Weinheimer’s artwork earned a place in the top 25 in this year’s San Antonio Rodeo contest, bringing in $14,775 in scholarship money.

Art teacher Marnie Hart said, “I am so proud of these young pioneers.”
