Another great mystery at the Kyle Public Library! “A Sunless Sea” by Anne Perry is a suspenseful Victorian mystery that will leave you sitting on the edge of your chair. Detective William Monk, commander of the River Police in 1864 London, and his partner, Orme, discover the mutilated body of a woman on the Limehouse Pier while cruising the river on a cold and foggy morning. While Monk has seen senseless and violent crimes in his career, the horror of this murder chills him to the bone. Even his partner, Orme, is shaken by the gruesome discovery. Monk eventually discovers the identity of the person, but not much else about the murdered woman. Teaming up with his wife, Hester, and Oliver Rathbone, a close friend and a lawyer, the three set out to uncover the mystery behind this horrific murder, only to make some eye-opening discoveries that end in a fierce courtroom battle of life and death. Facing one of the most difficult moral dilemmas of his life, Monk must make a choice that could very well convict an innocent person and leave a cold-hearted murderer to run free.
