Buda Bits
by SANDRA GRIZZLE

Hays CISD schools close their doors this week for the summer and our Buda Library opens the doors for lots of summer fun activities for children. On Monday, June 4, children of all ages can come to the library to pick up their reading log and get started in the summer reading club. On Thursday, June 7, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., the library will host the Summer Kick-Off Party at Buda City Park Pavilion. The free event will have train rides, face painting, balloon twisting, craft booths, and games, light refreshments and popcorn provided by the Buda Lions Club.

The Buda Library is very proud to announce that H-E-B, Plum Creek and Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union have donated a combined total of $1,500 to the library’s Summer Reading Program. With a 50 percent matching grant from Literacy for a Lifetime, the Buda Summer Reading Program will be able to purchase $2,250 worth of books to award to reading club members. Every child that participates as a member of the reading club and attends the final night on August 9 will be awarded a beautiful hardcover book.

Join the friends and meet author Crisp at the Buda Library on Saturday. Refreshments will be served.

Time to sign up for the annual Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament sponsored by the Buda Lions Club and the Onion Creek Senior Citizens. Check-in starts at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 24 and play begins at 2:30 p.m. at the senior center in Buda. Registration is a $30 donation with all proceeds benefiting the building fund for the senior center. Contact Richard Harlow at 512-626-4038 or Judy Deats at 512-268-9440 for an application. This year’s prizes will be a barbecue pit, GPS, Blu-ray player, numerous gift certificates and more, along with refreshments.
