Roy Newman Ruston (1943-2012)

Roy Newman Ruston, beloved husband, father and friend passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 6:29 am.

Roy was born September 17, 1943 and grew up in the Driftwood area where he attended and graduated from Dripping Springs High School. After graduation, Roy joined Local 286 where he worked as a journeyman welder and then later became an instructor. He graduated from Purdue University with a Certificate for Instruction of Journeyman Apprentices in 1989. He served Local 286 as Apprenticeship Coordinator and Business agent until he retired in 2004. All together, Roy served the union for 49 years.

Friendship Creekside Fellowship church was a huge part of Roy’s life and he was always involved in activities supporting where ever needed. But Roy’s true passion and skill was making knives. He would make knives completely from scratch out of various metals, woods and bone. He loved creating knifes as much as he loved hunting. Roy was a excellent bowman and loved hunting turkey and deer. We will miss his famous deer jerkey and sausage.

Roy is preceded in death by his father, Ira Newman Ruston, and beloved daughter Christi Garrett.

Roy is survived by his beloved wife Sandra of 49 years; mother Lillie Pearl Ruston; brother Pete Ruston and wife Joyce; daughter Rebecca Latta and husband Curt; daughter Nikki Creech and husband Will; son-in-law Brian Garrett; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 7th  at Friendship Creekside Fellowship followed with interment at Driftwood Cemetery.
