Schedule of Veterans Day celebrations and events around Hays County

Nov. 9


Hemphill Elementary will present a Veterans Day program at 7:45 a.m. Includes songs by the Hemphill Choir and veteran guest speakers.


Hays High School will honor veterans at 8:30 a.m. in Joe Graham Gym.  Student Council, band and choir members will participate in the celebration. Cmdr. Jeff Mullen of the U.S. Navy will be the guest speaker.


The annual Dahlstrom Middle School Veterans Day assembly will be held at 9 a.m. Planned activities include the Boy Scouts presenting the colors, guest speakers, performances by the DMS band and choir and selected readings from DMS students.  Light refreshments will be provided to Veterans at 8:30 a.m.


Elm Grove Kindergarten and first grade students will perform “A Salute to Veterans” at 9 a.m. for veterans in the community.


Chapa Middle School will host its annual Veterans Day Assembly at 9:30 a.m. All family and community members are welcome and encouraged to attend and join us in honoring those who have served our nation in the armed forces.


The Wimberley ISD and the VFW will be honoring all veterans in a program at 10 a.m. at the Wimberley High School Stadium.  The Veteran Memorial Flag team will be presenting the military flags.


Kyle Elementary School will present a Veterans Day celebration at 1:30 p.m. All community members and veterans are invited to attend.


Lehman High School will hold a Veterans Day celebration at 3 p.m. The VFW Post Kyle/Buda 12058 will take part in the ceremonies.


A “Tough Hero” competition will take place from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. at Anytime Fitness in Kyle. Community members can take on a variety of physical fitness challenges to help raise money for Tough Hero, a nonprofit that helps military families with expenses.


Nov. 10 


Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. sponsored by Main Street Program, Downtown Association and Café on the Square; dance and vocal performances, Army Oath of Enlistment ceremony, Kiwanis Club kids bicycle brigade.


Veterans Day Parade, downtown San Marcos, beginning at 10 a.m. at San Marcos City Hall.


“Thank You, America,” sponsored by United Way Hays County. Community Celebrity Readers will share stories with children ages two to eight. United Way volunteers will prepare a fun craft. Begins at 3 p.m.


Nov. 11


Catch the Veterans Day program at the Veterans Memorial Plaza at the EmilyAnn Theatre and Gardens in Wimberley.  See the raising of the U.S. and Texas flags and then the military flags.  Event organizers will read the names of all veterans who have bricks at the plaza. Program begins at 11 a.m.


Nov. 12


Barton Middle School will host a Veterans Day assembly to honor all veterans from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.


There will be a free breakfast at 11 a.m. for all veterans at Cabela’s in Buda. The Veterans Memorial Flag team of the Wimberley VFW will be raising the flag.


Chick-fil-A in Kyle will host the Veterans and Family Night from 5-7:30 p.m. Veterans receive a free meal during those hours. All other proceeds will go to AMVETS Post 115 in Kyle. One hundred percent of the money will be used to provide a better Christmas for needy families in the area, send fruit baskets for the veteran visitation program and to send care packages to troops in Afghanistan. All donations received in November will be used for the same purposes.
