Amber’s Angels Christmas donations
Barbara Robert’s class at Elm Grove Elementary is raising money for Amber’s Angels, a nonprofit started by Roberts’s friend, Amberlyn Fett, who passed away in 2011 from cystic fibrosis. Fett spent most of her Christmas holidays in the hospital. The organization gives gift bags to children at Dell Children’s hospital during the holidays. Money or gift-bag items should be dropped off at Elm Grove by Dec. 14. Only certain items can be accepted; a full list of items is at www.ambers-angels.org.

Hays CISD Board names interim supt.
At a special meeting Monday night, the Hays CISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted to name Deputy Superintendent Carter Scherff interim superintendent effective when current superintendent Dr. Jeremy Lyon tenders his resignation. Lyon has been named the lone finalist as the Frisco ISD superintendent. Scherff has served in the district since Feb. 2003; he was appointed interim superintendent in 2009 when then superintendent Kirk London resigned. The board members also reviewed a request for proposal, or RFP, calling for superintendent search firms to submit bids to the district; those bids will be opened in early January. The board expects to call two special meetings in January to decide which firms to interview and hire. The board will then outline a detailed plan to gather community input, post a job description and ultimately hire a superintendent. Hays CISD spokesperson Tim Savoy said the process could take several months.
