Uhland’s Kramer will be missed

Odds & Ends

by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

What a surprise! Waking up at 2 a.m. to thunder, lightning and rain. About one inch of rain fell in the Uhland area on Sunday morning. The grass has already “greened” up. A beautiful sight. The high wind did not harm the nice oats and wheat crop in the area. Acres of corn are coming into tassle and it and the Milo maize needed the moisture, cotton looks good also. More rain needed but grateful for the inch that fell.

Funeral services for Leonard Kramer were held at First Baptist Church in New Braunfels on Wednesday, May 2. Leonard was born and raised in the Uhland community and attended Uhland schools. His parents, Carl and Emilia Kramer, along with brothers, Lesley, Roland, Charles and sister, Charlene, lived on the farm now owned by the Raymond Heideman family. After the passing of their father and trying to make a living on a 55-acre farm, the family moved to New Braunfels. Leonard joined the CCC and later the Air Force. After his discharge, he worked at Kelley and Randolph Air Force bases until he retired. His brothers, Lesley and Roland and sister, Charlene McQuiston, son, Terry, and first wife of 60 years, Catherine, preceded Leonard in death. He is survived by wife, Blanche Kramer, brother, Charles and wife Margaret Ann; brother-in-law, Clare McQuiston of Richmond, Indiana; sister-in-law, Lillian Smith of New Braunfels; numerous step-children; step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

While living in Uhland, the Kramer family was very devoted members of Immanuel Baptist Church near Kyle.

Attending the funeral from Uhland were Mr. and Mrs. Rick Kleen and Myrtle Heideman. Rick, a Mason, was one of the Masons participating in the burial service for Leonard. Sympathy is extended to the family.

A shower honoring Amos Baker and Kristen Leonard was held at Tony and Sue King’s home in Uhland on Saturday, April 28. Jessie Stephens, sister of the groom and Kelsey Leonard, sister of the bride, hosted the shower. About 50 guests attended and enjoyed the great food and games. Among the games played were The Newlywed Game, horseshoes, washers, football and pool. Amos and Kristen wish to thank all who came to help them celebrate their upcoming wedding on June 19. Special thanks to Jessie, Kelsey and Sue for making it happen. Also thanks for all the beautiful gifts.

Speaking of fun, even a garage sale can be fun if friends and neighbors come to visit, look and eat lunch and maybe find a trinket to buy, after the markdowns. Several families took part in the sale at Dorothy Sneider’s house on Saturday. Some of us enjoyed the visiting, gossip and meeting some real nice people. Thanks to Dorothy and Marie for the invitation and good food.
