How many newcomers to the Buda community know that Onion Creek is part of our area? It seems there are a lot of folks who do not realize the creek is the one you cross over on FM 967 and also FM 1626. With the help of our County Commissioner, Mark Jones, we hope to tell all by having signs placed on the bridges crossing over the creek. It is about time that everyone knows this, even if the creek is dry most of the time. Of course, history will tell you that it has almost gotten up to the bridge on FM 967 several times in the past.

The new school year got underway this week for children attending Santa Cruz Catholic School in Buda. Santa Cruz School is the only Catholic school in Hays County and currently has grades PreK through seventh.

Next Monday, Aug. 27, activity picks up at all the Hays CISD schools, with the official start of the new school year.
Please keep the school zones safer by not talking on cell phones, driving the correct speed and watching out for our children.

Also two very loved and respected men, Moe Johnson and Red Simon, need our prayers. Both men have given a lifetime of good deeds to our area and now we need to keep them in our prayers and thoughts as they struggle with health problems.

Members of the Downtown Buda Merchants are busy working on activities for “First Thursday” on Sept. 6. The theme is “Remembering Buda” and there will be a wealth of information and pictures to give you a look at our Buda of long ago. Plan to come downtown and eat, shop and listen to great music.
