Pie Company plays host to filmmakers

A film crew was set up for about three hours at the Texas Pie Company in downtown Kyle Saturday morning, confirms shop owner Julie Albertson.

Though she didn’t know the specifics about the project, Albertson said her shop is a popular spot for independent filmmakers.

“Film crews come in often and use it for diner scenes,” she said. “They get to come in and film for free. There’s no reason to charge them. They use our name, so it’s good advertising for us.”

Albertson said she didn’t recognize any celebrities in the group and doesn’t think it was a major film company. Albertson said she hasn’t ever been approached by a large production.

“Not yet, but I would love to get in with the Texas Film Commission to use us as a location for big movies,” she said. “This was probably something for South by Southwest.”

SH 130 extension opens

A ribbon cutting was held Wednesday, Oct. 24, to mark the opening of the 41-mile extension of State Highway 130 in Central Texas

The highway, a public-private partnership, is the first of its kind to open in Texas. The project was constructed and will be operated by the State Highway 130 Concession Company, LLC, an independent company formed by Cintra U.S. and Zachry American Infrastructure.

State and local leaders celebrated the opening of SH 130 Segments 5 and 6 with former U.S. Secretary of Transportation and SH 130 Concession Company board member Mary Peters.

Once the road officially opens to traffic on the afternoon of Oct. 24, motorists may drive Segments 5 and 6 of SH 130 for free until Nov. 11. Beginning Nov. 11, the toll rate will be set at $0.15 per mile for passenger vehicles using TxTag.  Cars and trucks without a TxTag may also use the road and will be billed via TxDOT’s pay-by-mail service.

Bordeaux’s brings new location to Dripping Springs

Bordeaux’s Prime Steakhouse has opened a second location in Hays County. The downtown Kyle business expanded to Dripping Springs earlier this month.

The new restaurant is located at 3991 Highway 290, and while it has a different look and feel from the Kyle original, the owners promise it boasts the same great food and service as their diners have come to expect.
