Fellowship caters to Gearheads

by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

The Men’s Fellowship of St. John Lutheran Church of Uhland had a successful day catering the Gearheads car show at Cabela’s in Buda on Sat., Oct. 20. The breakfast tacos, chipped beef sandwiches and hot dogs, etc. were well received. The guys say thanks to all who helped, donated and especially to those who partook of the well-prepared food.

The sermon at St. John Lutheran Church on Sunday was “On Eagles Wings.” Prior to the sermon, a hymn, “On Eagles Wings,” was sung by Aviana Burkepile and accompanied by organist, Pamela Fisher. A beautiful hymn by a beautiful voice! Thanks, Aviana, we hope to hear you again. Thanks to Pamela also and to David Goeke for the inspiring sermon.

The consecration worship service of David L. Goeke, as Lay Deacon, of St. John Lutheran Church in Uhland, Texas, will be held on Oct. 28, 2012 at 3 p.m. at St. John Church. Members of the congregation, the community and families and friends are cordially invited to this special service of worship, praise and celebration.

One of the St. John Women’s Guild projects is to assist the Women’s Shelter of Hays and Caldwell counties, located in San Marcos. We will be sending gift cards. They also have a list of needs. Please contact a member of the guild for a list if you would like to contribute items. The last day for collecting items will be Nov. 4. You can call (512) 398-3800 if you have donations.

An early Halloween party was held at the home of Dorothy Schneider last Wednesday. Guests Trisha Wydle, Cheryl Williams and Gary Schneider enjoyed an outdoor chilidog supper. No tricks, just treats! On Friday, Dorothy accompanied Bruce and Gary Schneider to Schertz-Clemens for the Hays game. Hays won! Her grandson Michael Schneider is a drummer in the Hays band.

On Sunday, Daniel and Sharon Heideman along with Myrtle Heideman were dinner guests of Erica Karel of Austin and her parents and houseguests, Rene and Doris Karel of Houston. The family cooked a very delicious Czech dinner. Also enjoying the meal was her fiancé, Brian Heideman of Austin. An enjoyable evening of visiting and story telling made for a great visit.

Glad to report Daniel Heideman is doing okay after gall bladder surgery last week.
