Clyde Edward Fortenberry, age 70, of Kyle, passed away Friday, June 15. He was born on August 1, 1941 in Houston and graduated from Bellaire High School in 1959, where he lettered in football. He received an athletic scholarship from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. He earned a BBA from the University of Houston in 1965, where he was president of the American Marketing Association and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. After college, Clyde served six years in the Texas National Guard, 36th Division, and the U.S. Army Reserves, 45th Maneuver Area Command. Clyde’s career spanned over 30 years in group health insurance and administration. He was a Certified Life Underwriter and served many years as president of his TPA business, CAPSCO, in Austin. In 1993, Clyde sold CAPSCO and formed Bent Tree Management Corporation in Houston, Texas where he owned and operated a commercial shopping center. Clyde was a member of the Coronado Masonic Lodge #107, AF&AM in El Paso, the Galveston Scottish Rite, Ben Hur Shriners of Austin and Golf Unit, where he served as president. He was a member of the Patrick Henry Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and a member of Wimberley Presbyterian Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kirby Carl Fortenberry and Lillian Stephens Fortenberry, a brother, H. W. Hillebrandt Jr., and his sons Blake and Lee Fortenberry. He is survived by his wife Sandy, grandson Kirby Lee Fortenberry of Plano, his step-daughter, Heather, and husband Charles Casey of Kyle, brother Kirby Carl Fortenberry Jr., and wife Shirley, of Chappell Hill, sister, Anna Wingfield of Houston, and many nieces and nephews.
