Alice Evelyn (Steen) Herzog (1936-2012)

Alice Evelyn (Steen) Herzog, 76, of Spicewood, died on May 13, 2012 at Seton Medical Center-Hays. She was born on February 12, 1936 to Willie and Emma Steen in Nebraska. Soon after her birth, she and her family moved to Washington County. She attended school in the Greenvine and Winedale community.


On June 29, 1952, she married Theodore (Ted) Herzog Jr. in Washington County. In the Late ‘50s she and husband Ted moved to Austin. After her retirement they moved to Lake Travis in Spicewood.


Alice and Ted loved to be at the lake and loved to go camping whenever they got the chance. She loved anything outdoors.


Alice worked as a secretary for Reliable Life Insurance Company in Austin and later became a secretary for the Astronomy Department at the University of Texas, where she retired.


Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Theodore Sr. and Josephine (Haas) Herzog of Brenham, Her brother and sister-in-law William and Ruth Steen of Brenham, brother Glen Steen of Arlington, sister Luciele Meyer of Graham and daughter-in-law Brenda Herzog of Austin.


She is survived by her sons, Allen Herzog of Thorndale, Mike Herzog of Brenham, Ronnie and Stacey Herzog of Leander, daughter Cathy and John Davis of Martindale. Grandchildren Chad Ghrist, Valerie, Charles and Coy Cotter, Stacy Herzog, David and Bobby Herzog and Lane Herzog. Two great-grandchildren. Her sister and brother-in-law Katy and Franklin Effenberger of Brenham, brother-in-law Harold Meyer of Graham, sister-in-law Shirlene Steen of Arlington, and numerous nephews and nieces


A memorial service for Alice was held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle.
