Sapopa Saucedo Alvarez (1921-2012)

Sapopa Saucedo Alvarez, age 90, passed away on February 18, 2012. She was born on November 18, 1921 in Kyle, at the Bunton farm where she spent most of her early years and adulthood.


She is survived by daughters, Oralia Sandoval, Paula Alvarez, Fidelia Loera and husband, Victor, Armandina A. Gunter; sons, Benino Alvarez and wife, Judy, Fidel Alvarez Jr., Juan Alvarez, Angel Alvarez and wife, Linda; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fidel M. Alvarez Sr., daughter, Beatrice and son, Candelario.


She was one of the matriarchs of the Saucedo family. After the death of her mother, Sapopa at the age of eight and her sister, Chonita at the age of 12 took on the responsibility of raising her brothers and eight-month-old sister. Despite this misfortune, she gave motherly love not only to her family but to everyone she knew throughout her life. She will be deeply missed.


The rosary was recited Monday, February 20, 2012 at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle with Angel Guzman reciting. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Matthew Kinney celebrating. The interment followed at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Uhland.
