Candidates for Kyle council take seats with no opposition

BELLOWS

STAFF REPORT

Ray Bryant and Samantha Bellows can schedule their victory celebrations in the race for seats on the Kyle City Council.

With no other candidates coming forward by Monday’s filing deadline, the city of Kyle is determining whether to cancel its general election May 12. Bryant and Bellows will be sworn in after the election date has passed and the results have been canvassed, says City Secretary Amelia Sanchez.

There’s still a reason to go to the polls May 12, however. That’s when Kyle voters will decide whether to fully relax the city’s alcohol ordinances, allowing for bars and nightclubs within the city limits.

BRYANT

Bryant is a former City Council member who stepped down to run an unsuccessful election bid for county commissioner in 2011. He will be sworn in to replace City Councilman Russ Huebner.

Bellows, a member of the Kyle Planning & Zoning Commission, will assume the Place 5 council position held by Jaime Sanchez, who like Huebner declined to run for re-election.
