Float for a change
Tube down the San Marcos River for fun and philanthropy; Texas State Tubes and United Way of Hays County teamed up for this special benefit float scheduled for Aug. 18. They provide the tube, shuttle to and from the river, and live music from The Weed Hawks. You provide the donation, which can help pay for services at one of 15 partner agencies served by United Way, and get to enjoy a scenic float. Everyone wins. Movies in the Park
The final night of the Kyle Parks and Recreation Department’s Movies in the Park finale is “Spy Kids, All the Time in the World.” Bring a blanket and enjoy a movie under the stars. Film begins at dark, approximately 9 p.m. Friday Gregg-Clark Park, Center Street, Kyle.


“From Uncertain to Blue” Photographs by Keith Carter
Images from the series of small Texas towns by photographer Keith Carter will be on display at Texas State University’s Alkek Library through August 29. Taken by Carter in the 1980s, each sepia tone photo represents one town. The display also includes the road map he used and field notes from his wife Patricia Carter.


Fall vegetable workshop
Not sure what to plant in your fall garden? Join the discussion at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Hays County AgriLife Extension office in San Marcos. You’ll learn about choosing vegetable varieties, pest control, composting and more. Free and open to the public; just RSVP by Aug. 21 (512) 393-2120.


Grape Stomp
The folks at William Chris Vineyards brought the grapes in; now it’s your turn to step on them. For a fee, you can put your purple footprints on a T-shirt to create your own masterpiece. Stomps held from noon-5 p.m. Aug. 18-19 and Aug. 25-26. Located near Johnson City on Highway 290 in Hye, Texas.
